Home Remedies for Anaemia

Anaemia is a condition that develops when our body does not receive enough oxygen to fulfill its needs. The lack of oxygen occurs due to deficiency of red blood cells or low levels of hemoglobin pigment that binds with oxygen.

A lack of folate and vitamin B-12 may also impact your body’s ability to make red blood cells. If your body can’t process B-12 properly, you may develop pernicious anemia.   •   Shatavari: Obtained from the plant Asparagus racemosus, Shatavari has been recommended by Ayurveda experts for treating anaemia. A favourite Ayurvedic drink called Shatavari kalpa can be found in the form of liquid as well as granules that can be mixed with milk and turned into a refreshing drink.
  •   Apple: The adage ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ suitably fits for anaemic. Apples are iron-rich; consuming two or three apples a day can cure anaemia sans medications.
  •   Honey: Honey is rich in iron, copper and manganese. An anaemic person can benefit from the regular consumption of honey as doing so improves haemoglobin count in the blood curing anaemia.
  •   Almonds: Seven soaked and peeled almonds a day can remedy anaemia. Soak them overnight and the next morning. Take them empty stomach
  •   Drumstick Leaves: Drumsticks are loaded with vitamins A and C, iron, calcium, and magnesium that can help cure anemia.
  •   Blackstrap Molasses: Blackstrap molasses is a sweet by-product obtained from refining sugarcane. It is low in sugar but rich in vitamins and minerals like vitamin B6, magnesium, calcium, and selenium. Consuming blackstrap molasses can help increase the iron levels in your body, thereby improving your hemoglobin levels and RBC count
  •   Figs: The plump and sweet figs are loaded with iron. They are also good sources of vitamin A, folate, and magnesium (13). Soaking figs helps them get digested quickly.

Symptoms of Anemia

Symptoms of extremely low levels of hemoglobin include:

  •   a fast or irregular heartbeat
  •   pale skin and gums
  •   fatigue
  •   muscle weakness
  •   frequent or unexplained bruising
  •   reoccurring headaches
