Home Remedies for Appendicitis

Appendicitis a painful medical condition, occurs when your appendix becoms inflamed and filled with pus. Appendicitis can be acute or chronic. Anyone can get this condition, however, it often affects people between the ages of 10 and 30. If left untreated, appendicitis can cause your appendix to burst. This can cause bacteria to spill into your abdominal cavity, which can be serious and sometimes fatal.

In most cases, surgery is required to remove the inflamed appendix. This procedure can be done as open surgery or through laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgery that removes the affected organ. Recent studies suggest that uncomplicated appendicitis - appendicitis without a ruptured appendix, pus-filled abscesses, or peritonitis - could be treated with antibiotics alone.

Appendicitis Causes:

In many cases, the exact cause of appendicitis is unknown. Experts believe it develops when part of the appendix becomes obstructed, or blocked. Many things can potentially block your appendix, including:

  •   a buildup of hardened stool
  •   intestinal worms
  •   enlarged lymphoid follicles
  •   traumatic injury
  •   tumors

When your appendix becomes blocked, bacteria can multiply inside it. This can lead to the formation of pus and swelling, which can cause painful pressure in your abdomen.

Abdominal pain from gas and appendicitis can feel similar at first. The easiest way to tell the difference between the two is to pay careful attention to any other symptoms.

If you start having abdominal pain, especially in your lower right side, be on the lookout for fever, nausea, and loss of appetite. These symptoms, along with abdominal pain, could signal appendicitis.

Similar pain that goes away on its own without other symptoms is likely a buildup of gas.

If you suspect appendicitis, err on the side of caution and get medical attention quickly. A ruptured appendix can be a serious health emergency.
