Amyloidosis

Amyloidosis is a rare and severe condition characterized by the accumulation of abnormal proteins, known as amyloid, in various tissues and organs throughout the body. This disorder arises from genetic mutations that alter the properties of proteins, rendering them insoluble. As a result, amyloid protein deposits can accumulate in vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, liver, and intestines, disrupting their normal functions and potentially leading to organ damage.

There is no universal dietary regimen for individuals with amyloidosis, as the condition can impact different organs, necessitating tailored dietary approaches. For instance, a low-sodium diet may be recommended for those with heart or kidney involvement, while a low-protein diet may be suitable for kidney health. Conversely, a high-carbohydrate and low-fat diet may benefit individuals with liver complications. Therefore, a healthy diet should be adapted to the specific symptoms and needs of the individual.
