What is Diarrhea?


Diarrhea is one of the most common health complaints caused by multiple viral, bacterial, and parasitic organisms. Types of Diarrhea

There are different types of diarrhoea on the clinical type of the illness. Four clinical types of diarrhoea include:

  1.  Acute Watery Diarrhoea (including cholera): This type of diarrhoea lasting for several hours or days. Dehydration and weight loss occurs due to this type of diarrhoea.
  2.  Acute Bloody Diarrhoea (also called dysentery): Intestinal damage, Sepsis, Malnutrition and dehydration may also occur for this.
  3.  Persistent Diarrhoea (which lasts 14 days or longer): Symptoms like malnutrition and serious non-intestinal infection occur for this type of Diarrhoea.
  4.  Diarrhoea with severe malnutrition (marasmus or kwashiorkor): Severe systemic infection, dehydration, heart failure and vitamin and mineral deficiency are the main dangers.

Causes Of Diarrhea

Diarrhea makes its presence when you pass loose, watery stool two or more times a day. Other symptoms also include:

  •  Nausea
  •  Dehydration
  •  Weight loss
  •  Fever
  •  Blood or pus in the stools
  •  Persistent vomiting

Prevention Of Diarrhea

  •  Promoting hygiene education

  •  Exclusive breast-feeding
  •  Improved weaning practices

  •  Keeping food and water clean
